    • Upgrade Assistant Offering

    A consultant from D.S.P. obtains the necessary upgrade assistant software, loads it onto your current AS/400, and assists you to prepare your system for the upgrade. We work with you in gathering information from your system and helping you understand the impact and process necessary to upgrade to RISC. If you purchase a system from us, we will include this service for free!

    • System Transition Offering

    A RISC Transition Specialist works with you to plan the transition, prepare your current AS/400 for the upgrade, gather documentation from the current system, and perform the tasks required onsite to load the new RISC system with your data and programs. Onsite support is also provided during customer system testing and verification.

    • Project Management Offering

    Provides planning and project management assistance to assist your staff before the upgrade. A RISC Transition Specialist works with you to perform the planning and scheduling of the upgrade and verifies that all planning tasks have occurred.

    D.S.P. Inc. has the following tips for your AS/400e RISC upgrade:

    • Carefully plan your upgrade and follow the steps in the AS/400 Road Map for Changing to PowerPC Technology book (SA41-4150). Also order AS/400 Planning for PowerPC Technology (SA41-4154).

    • Determine your upgrade method - Replace the release, unload/reload, side-by-side.

    • Plan for 100% more memory and 50% more DASD. Memory is inexpensive and really boosts performance.

    • QUSRTOOL (Example Tools Library) is no longer provided from IBM. Move any program source that you are using out of QUSRTOOL and put it in your own development library.

    • You must have program observability for all of your programs that you are migrating or you must have the source code! This also applies to 3rd party software. You must contact each vendor for a new RISC version of their software since most software provider's programs do not have program observability.
